For the Love of Music

A short film focused on the love found in and from the experience of music, in all of it's forms.

What does music mean to you?

The question I had asked myself leading up to writing the script forced me to think of what I truly valued in music. My answer was the stories, within each song and my experience finding them. Music can be a long self-led journey or a short escape, extended every time we engage with it. "For the Love of Music" is my short love letter to those small moments that turned into a life-long appreciation of the medium and all of its creators.

In my experience, a lot of directors have stopped making shorts about themselves and what they love. A lot of time is spent trying to create work for others, companies, brands that aren't their own, and more. To each there own, we're all in this to survive, but where is the time left for them? When writing this short piece I really wanted to begin with this in mind. Not on some abstract concept or idea, not on a theory or story heard from another, just on my own feelings of this medium we've all shared at some point. One thing you'll find throughout my works is that there will always be an effort to connect. All of our stories connect, and this is no exception. There aren't many thoughts that are our own, so many of them are built to resonate.

I chose the 100c track "Not in love" because of the instant feeling of nostalgia it gives. The dream-like atmosphere it enters in with feels like waking up to a warm summer day. Add in a few light sound effects here and there in the final edit, and you have a well rounded narrative cut. One that pushed heavily on the dreamy atmosphere.

The Amaran 150c combined with the Amaran T2c was my main pairing for lighting my scenes. Both helped to carve out silhouettes that created a stage-like feel, one I've been chasing for a long time!
