OhWright!

This project is a brand study for the OhWright brand in the style of magazine article.

An exercise in personal style

The OhWright! branding was founded on the base idea of making a pun out of my last name, Wright. Choosing to make the experience of forgetfulness into a memorable one was where the slogan came from. The project combines studio photography with various multimedia techniques to achieve the final look (Hand-drawn pencil/pen, paper textures, watercolour textures, 3D, tape, etc).

This project is a brand study for the OhWright brand in the style of magazine article.

When tackling this initial project with photographer Jay Rowe, I had originally gone into conceptualizing everything as a series of press photos. I thought of the type of coverage that would be included in magazines like GQ, MensHealth, etc. When looking at everything captured, I was VERY happy with how they had all come out. A studio shoot provided the perfect space to capture full body photos, different from my typical photoshoot situations; shout out to Wade Studio in Toronto.

When reviewing all of the photos I had desire to present them in a way that took the typical clean photoshoot look out of them. I had already been looking at many mix media projects leading up to and after the shoot and decided to  focus on that. With it also being an idea based in self-branding, I saw the opportunity to not only incorporate my logo but adding in some text I had been thinking of; OhWright, a moniker I had been thinking of for a few months prior.

Using a series of paper textures, halftone techniques and unique photoshop brushes (pencils, markers, watercolour brushes, etc.) I went out of my way to create the type of mix media project I have been wanting to make since I was in high school. Because of the close relationship all of the tools had it made it very easy to keep the project focused in its presentation, with most of the variation coming from the photos used.
